Miracle Monday│Buy a Blizzard treat to help save children’s lives

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s Miracle Monday and we are just weeks away from a large event that benefits the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“Community businesses ing the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Something as simple as enjoying a Blizzard from Dairy Queen is helping save thousands of lives,” Asim Momin with Dairy Queen said.

Dairy Queen has been a sponsor of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1984. And one day each year, participating Dairy Queen locations across the nation and Canada donate a portion, or even all proceeds, for each Blizzard sold. They call this - Miracle Treat Day.

And our local Children’s Hospital of Georgia benefits from this, and since 2015, the partnership with Dairy Quen has raised more than $340,000 for the hospital.

Whether you really like Blizzards or just giving back, Miracle Treat Day allows you to do both. It’s ing kids like three-year-old Charlotte, who was born with life-threatening heart defects.

“With it being unknown and a surprise, our whole world was flipped upside down,” Charlotte’s mother, Emily, said.

Charlotte was born at another hospital and immediately became sick.

“They were not really equipped for anything she was going through. So they kind of were like, ‘Let’s take your picture with her and hold her for a while.’ It was almost like we don’t know what’s going to happen,” Emily said.

Charlotte wasn’t even two days old when she arrived at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, and she was diagnosed with a rare heart defect, which meant blood could not flow properly through her body.

“It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through, but in a way, you’re able to put your emotions aside to be a mom to your baby,” Emily said.

Charlotte had her first heart surgery at nine days old, and a couple of others later on to fix her heart.

“All of the doctors and nurses and transport teams just took great such great care of us as a whole. They were there every step of the minute,” Emily said.

Charlotte is one of the thousands of kids across the country that miracle treat day helps .

And Asim Momin says it’s rewarding to be a part of such a special day.

“We want to always help our local kids such as charlotte and many others. We want to bring them the hope and healing through our money raised through Miracle Treat Day,” Momin said.

Emily says Charlotte has such an appreciation for life.

“She’s always excited about everything she loves everybody. Everyone is her best friend, no one is a stranger,” Emily said.
