Crashes kill driver in Aiken County, pedestrian in Burke County

WILLISTON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - In separate accidents, a pedestrian died in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning just north of Girard, and a driver died in a single-vehicle crash west of Williston.
They were among three fatal crashes Wednesday in the CSRA. The third one, in Augusta, killed the driver of a car that was struck by a vehicle fleeing deputies.
Aiken County
A single-vehicle crash happened around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 278 near Jaywood Road about four miles west of Williston, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 2011 Ford Fusion was traveling east and crossed the center line, going off the left side of the road, struck a culvert, and overturned, ejecting the driver.
The unrestrained driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, was killed, according to troopers.
The coroner identified him as William T. Sargent II, 53. He was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries.
The coroner’s office, along with SCHP are continuing with the investigation.
Burke County
Earlier in the day in Burke County, a pedestrian was killed in the 9900 block of Highway 23 between Claxton Road and Brigham Landing Road.
When deputies arrived on the scene around 7:20 a.m. they found a deceased male lying off the roadway.
A preliminary investigation indicates he was struck by an unknown vehicle while in the roadway. Deputies believe the crash occurred between 5:30 a.m. and the time he was found.
Deputies told News 12 the pedestrian was identified as Henry Dale “Bubba” Moss Sr., the grandfather of missing Georgia toddler Quinton Simon.
The sheriff is offering a reward for the information that leads to the individual responsible.
