AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A suspect has been arrested after the fatal shooting of a teenager, authorities said Wednesday.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim as 15-year-old Juanya Holliman, of the 1300 block of Bruce Street.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the shooting at 710 E. Cedar St., Good Hope Baptist Church, around 9:22 p.m. Tuesday.

Holliman was shot in the upper body and pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday at a local hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Authorities said Wednesday afternoon they’d arrested Tyrone Dorsey, 15, who was charged as an adult with murder.

He was transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, then the Regional Youth Detention Center, according to deputies.

The shooting is the latest in a surge in violence that’s claimed more than 100 lives across the CSRA since April 2022.

The outbreak has affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah River, but Augusta as the largest community has been hit especially hard.

Many of the victims and suspects, like Holliman and Dorsey, have been young men, and authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.
