Longtime Augusta chief judge set to retire in 2024
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Longtime Augusta Chief Judge Daniel J. Craig, first appointed in 2008, is set to retire at the end of his term in 2024.
“Over the past year, I have advised lawyers appearing in our courtrooms that I intend to retire in 2024. I now think that it is important to those who meet the statutory qualifications to serve as a Superior Court Judge of the Augusta Judicial Circuit that I publicly announce my retirement,” Craig said in a memorandum.
Craig released the memorandum on Friday.
In the memorandum, Craigs says he intends to complete the term of office, which ends on Dec. 31, 2024.
“Even though I hope to continue working for the people of the circuit and the state as a Senior Superior Court Judge, I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the citizens of Burke, Richmond, and Columbia Counties who gave me the privilege of serving as their elected District Attorney and Superior Court judge over the past 32 years,” Craig said in the memorandum.
