Fatal Barnwell County fire investigated for potential arson

HILDA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is dead after a fire in Barnwell County that’s being investigated as a potential arson case.
The Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office said that on Monday, the Hilda Fire Department and Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mobile home fire on Green Branch Road, which is southwest of Hilda.
Human remains were recovered.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arson investigators and the state fire marshal responded to investigate, according to authorities.
The Barnwell County Coroner’s Office said the remains will be autopsied Friday, and that no further information could be provided for now.
