GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A mom has been charged after her 4-year-old son was hurt after falling out of a vehicle and being run over on Exit 190.

Jamey Dakai Kadhim, 38, was charged on March 14 with reckless conduct and safety restraints for the child restraining system, according to a report from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 11, deputies responded to Lewiston Road near the I‑20 interchange for an accident with injuries.

Deputies arrived and learned that Kadhim was operating a 2021 Toyota Highlander northbound on Lewiston Road.

Her son was in the car without a car seat or seat belt, allowing him “to roam the vehicle freely”, according to the deputy’s report.

Officials say while the car was moving, the child opened the door and fell out onto the roadway after striking the left back tire. Deputies say this caused “serious injury.”

The sheriff’s office previously said the boy was in the pediatric intensive-care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
