‘Try it out’: CSRA catches golf fever after Masters week
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - How many of your friends this past week have stopped and asked, “Want to go play golf?”
It’s an itch that needs scratching, and CSRA businesses are hoping to provide.
Nick Prokosa, who owns Wedges and Woods, has seen this every year. Masters week comes, and so does the need to play golf along with it.
“So many people, not even golfers they get touched, whether it’s a hat, a ball, something left in their house, when they come home, all those things. So now they want to try it out,” said Prokosa.
The advertising for the game is simple: you see it, you want to play it.
Alyssa Jones with Topgolf Augusta said: “You have a lot of first-timers out here, because of everything that’s going on in our community. Masters is always the time for first timers.”
Prokosa says the next two weeks are some of the biggest for the golf industry locally.
“We probably see a 25% increase after Masters week versus pre-Masters week,” said Prokosa.
Jones said: “I definitely think the rush does pick up. I think they see the social media articles. They see the TikToks, they see the YouTube videos, they see all the influencers that come out and they want to try it.”
Bays at the driving range become hard to reserve.
“We have roughly right now, we have 45 stations. So after 4 o’clock this afternoon, we’ll have all 45 stations filled at one time, you have to book it out, like compared to what you usually do. It’s first come first serve,” said Prokosa.
Because once you pick up a club in Augusta, there really is no going back.
