South Carolina has experienced a population boom as of late, seeing an increase of 1.7% between 2022 and 2023, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The data suggests some new trends for where in the state people want to live.
While the state has long been famous for the Lowcountry’s beaches and rich history, destinations like Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head rank low for livability due to unpredictable weather and skyrocketing prices. Upstate cities and suburbs take the higher spots due to their affordability, low crime rates and quality schools, USA Today Homefront said.
