BEECH ISLAND, S.C.. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Friday, a new South Carolina historical marker was added in Beach Island.

It’s at the corner of Silver Bluff Road and Old Jackson Highway.

It marks the Revolutionary War battle on May 21, 1781, at George Galphin’s Trading Post — known as Fort Galphin.

Street renamed in honor of WWII veteran in Thomson

On Thursday, a Thomson World War II veteran, who has been a pillar of the community, was recognized with a new street name.

Louis Graziano

In the short battle, the Patriot army took Fort Galphin from two companies of British infantry from Augusta.

The marker was provided by the South Carolina Society Children of the American Revolution and the Aiken County Historical Society.
