Barnwell man charged in deadly 2023 fentanyl overdose
BARNWELL, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter relating to an investigation of the June 2023 overdose death of a Barnwell woman, authorities announced Monday.
Aiken police investigate 2 shootings less than 2 miles apart
Less than 10 hours apart, the Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to two shootings less than two miles away from each other, authorities announce Tuesday.
On Aug 14, 2024, Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested Brian Maximiek, 52, on two counts of distribution of fentanyl and involuntary manslaughter relating to the investigation of the June 2023 overdose death of Windy Renee Fogle, 42.
On June 22, 2023, around 1:43 p.m. deputies say they responded to a home on Wildwood Road about a possible death investigation.
Fogle’s mother told authorities she went into her room to check on her because she had not heard from her since around 11:30 p.m. the night before. Authorities say that when she found Fogle, she immediately called 911.
The Barnwell County Coroner’s Office arrived and pronounced Fogle deceased at 1:51 p.m. on the scene, according to authorities.
Authorities say apparent narcotics were found in a small plastic drawer on top of a small dresser next to her bed and on a large dresser next to the window.
Warrenville man accused of assault/attempted murder and other charges
A man has been accused of assault/attempted murder, kidnapping and other charges in Warrenville, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office told us on Tuesday.
After further investigation, it appeared that Maximiek had been the one who sold the fentanyl-laced heroin to Fogle, according to authorities.
When arrested, authorities say Maximiek did confess that he sold Fogle the narcotics.
Maximiek was transported to Barnwell County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
