AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A day after official confirmation came about the identities of the two kids killed in a fiery traffic accident on Deans Bridge Road last month, the Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver.

On Wednesday, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said Marcus Dunbar, 19, of Augusta, was identified as the driver of the vehicle.

The day before, Bowen confirmed the deaths of Barry Fields Jr., 15, of Augusta, who was the front-seat enger, and his brother, Casey Fields, 13, old from Augusta, who was the back-seat enger.

The younger teens’ mom talked with News 12 on Tuesday as confirmation came in that her sons had died in the crash.

She was prepared for it – already sure that the victims were her sons – but that didn’t make it easy.

Now she’s holding onto every single memory and photo she has of them.

“Waiting and waiting, then thinking, ‘Oh, you know what? They might come through the door.’ They ain’t coming through the door,” said Scott.

“They were very joyful, like everyone around them loved them like no matter who it was you didn’t know them, they were very lovable,” Kareem Fludd said.

She waited 26 days for the confirmation.

“Can you imagine looking up in the sky at night, and you got two children that are far, far away, and you couldn’t even reach out and touch him if he wanted to,” said Scott.

“It’s been the hardest time of my life. I have never thought that I’d be the mother to go through what I went through,” said Scott.

She even planned a memorial without a proper goodbye.

“We actually had to do a memorial without any confirmation of the identification of my kids. We had to have, what, two urns at a funeral where there’s no ashes there. So, it’s like, you still like my kids still not present. It’s just two urns and pictures,” she said.

She’s wishing this was all just a nightmare that she is going to wake up from.

“At night is my toughest time. I can’t sleep because I’m scared to dream. Don’t know what you’re gonna dream of,” said Scott.

“I wanted my children to bury me. I didn’t want to bury my children,” said Scott.

DNA testing was required to identify the driver, who Scott said was a close friend of her sons.

The crash happened after a Blythe police officer tried to pull over the car, which led to a chase.

Their car hit a truck head-on and burst into flames.
