AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A 20-year-old has been accused of pointing a gun at a victim and threatening them multiple times on Laurens Street northwest, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

Aiken Public Safety officials say on Sept. 10, around 10 a.m. they responded to the 800 block of Laurens Street Northwest at the Colony Woods Apartments about a man pointing a gun at a victim.

A 19-year-old was arrested for firing a gun in a parking lot after a verbal altercation near a USC Aiken apartment complex, we learned from police on Wednesday.

When officers said when they arrived on the scene they spoke with the victim and a witness who stated the suspect threatened to kill him.

The victim told officers that he was on his porch when the suspect, identified as Phillip Upson, of Aiken, and a juvenile were walking back and forth in the complex and that the juvenile had a gun.

After a brief argument between Upson and the victim, Upson pulled out a pistol and threatened him then went inside another apartment, according to officials.

Authorities say this was not the first incident - earlier that day Upson had a separate incident of pointing and presenting.

Three people have been arrested in relation to an alleged kidnapping and larceny that occurred in July.

Both Upson and the juvenile were detained, officers said.

The juvenile was arrested for possession of a handgun by a minor and transported to headquarters, then released to their parent.

Upson has been charged with assault/aggravated battery in the first degree, and two counts of pointing and presenting firearms at a person.
