Troopers investigate deadly storm-related crash in Burke County

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Georgia State Patrol is investigating a deadly storm-related crash that happened Saturday night in Burke County.

Troopers say around 7 p.m., they responded to a two-vehicle accident between a 2021 Freightliner and a 2014 Honda Accord.

Around 8:18 p.m., the Burke County Sheriff’s Office said Highway 56 at the by was closed due to the accident.

According to GSP, the traffic light at the intersection was not working due to storm damage.

The Honda was traveling west on Highway 56 when troopers say the driver entered the intersection before the Freightliner. The Freightliners front struck the driver’s side of the Honda.

The driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead on the scene, GSP says.

The intersection was closed for several hours.
