Cleanup effort shuts down road, blocks Richmond County buses from stops
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Richmond County school officials announced buses were unable to reach several bus stops on Monday morning due to a road closure caused by Hurricane Helene cleanup efforts.
Richmond County School System officials said due to the road closure along Peach Orchard Road and Tobacco Road buses could not reach several bus stops.
Those living in the Pepperidge community area who attend Cross Creek High School, Gracewood Elementary School, and Pine Hill Middle School are affected, officials said.
School officials stated that for all other routes, please expect delays as our bus drivers navigate the roads as safely as possible to transport students to school.
City leaders say due to damage to the traffic signal at Peach Orchard Road and Pepperidge Drive and for the safety of traffic, Pepperidge Drive has been modified to a right-in, right-out configuration. No left turns will be allowed at this intersection.
New details on injured deputy, suspect accused of ramming his car
A 19-year-old has been charged with carjacking a vehicle and ramming the patrol car of a deputy who tried to apprehend him, seriously injuring the lawman.

Officials say the Georgia Department of Transport is currently shipping the materials to reinstall the traffic signal. The process is expected to take the rest of the week.
On Sunday, Richmond County deputies were out on Peach Orchard Road at Tobacco Road with downed traffic signals caused by an accident at 1:10 p.m.
Deputies were still assisted with traffic control at 8:43 a.m. Monday morning, authorities told us.
