FAIRBURN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A large police investigation is underway involving multiple agencies across two counties.

The Fairburn Police Department, Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are working a very active crime scene in south Fulton County.

A suspect has been arrested after being accused of killing 59-year-old Michael Whitfield on Halloween on Lumpkin Road, we learned from authorities on Tuesday.

Law enforcement officers have been in the area of John Rivers Road and Roosevelt Highway in Fairburn since late Wednesday night.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 on North Highway 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road. The Chrysler 300 refused to pull over, continuing into Fulton County reaching speeds of 110mph, the sheriff’s office says.

17-year-old arrested in murder on Hephzibah-McBean Road; victim identified

Jordan Walden, 17, of Augusta, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle and released K-9 Titan to assist in capturing the driver.

Deputies say the driver opened fire on the deputy and K-9 Titan. K-9 Titan was struck multiple times and died at the scene.

Officials say the deputy was struck multiple times, suffering several graze wounds. He was transported to the hospital and released and should make a full recovery.

3 arrested in ongoing sexual assault investigation in Burke County

Three suspects have been arrested in connection to an ongoing sexual assault investigation, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy returned fire on the driver, striking him multiple times. The driver also died at the scene, according to deputies.

“K-9 Titan has served the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for over five years. During his time, Titan has successfully located several missing persons, successfully identified illegal narcotics as well as assisted in the successful apprehension of multiple offenders,” the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

This incident is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
