Orangeburg deputies investigate dragstrip shooting that left 1 dead
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place at the South Carolina Motorplex Dragstrip Road that left one dead and two injured.
The shooting occurred at the South Carolina Motorplex Dragstrip Road on Saturday just before 6 p.m.
Deputies discovered a 40-year-old Orangeburg man had died from the result of the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is asking people who were there to send any pictures or videos from the event.
“They may have been taking a selfie, or they may have been taking a group shot of something that might have been in the vicinity at that particular time,” Chief Deputy Gibbs said, “As far as the investigation goes, it kind of helps us map things out.
As the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident, they have not yet made any arrests or identified any suspects.
Name released for man who escaped arrest twice in Lincoln County
We now know the name of the suspect who escaped arrest twice in Lincoln County Tuesday evening.

Deputies say someone from the crowd outside of the Motorplex Dragstrip had an altercation with another person before firing his gun.
“It is unfortunate that at a celebration of life, it also resulted in the ending of a life,” said Orangeburg County Chief Deputy Chandra Gibbs, “Especially from the racing community, we have heard how upset they are that this would transpired at an event.”
Chief Deputy Gibbs says the two victims were a 15-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man.
She says they are recovering and did not give specifics on their injuries. She says the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office believes the shooting was not planned.
“Everybody has their different ways of enjoying their time and I don’t believe there was anybody who came that day with the intent of living through an experience like that,” Deputy Chief Gibbs said, “They came with the mindset to have fun in their racing community.
Spokespeople from Triggaman Racing said Thursday afternoon they’ve been checking in on families that were involved in Saturday’s shooting. They say the incident has hurt their racing community.
Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall has yet to name the 40-year-old man who died in the incident Saturday, November 30th, 2024.
