AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - There are still a lot of shoppers looking to get that special gift for their loved ones.

Store owners say they expect the holiday rush to continue.

“We like to give our business to local companies,” says Beth Purdue, a local shopper. “We know a few owners around town, and we like to them.”

From packed parking lots to busy lines, Beth Purdue says there’s more meaning behind being out shopping instead of ordering online.

“It’s kind of a tradition we do every Christmas,” says Purdue. “We always go out to shop.”

Local shops like Cudos2u are feeling the holiday spirit through the lines of last-minute shoppers trying to make magic. They say they’re ready to help make that a reality by providing customers with local options they can’t find online or anywhere else.

“I think it’s very important, it lets the receiver know that you cared enough to look for something that is a little unique to them and it’s not something you’ve grabbed last minute whether you do it last minute or not,” says Judy Moody, general manager at Cudos2u.

A gift of giving the community says they want to give back by spending within the community.

“There’s people like me just living in the community and we appreciate what they do, so we try to stay local if we can,” says Purdue.

Many stores in Augusta, Evans, and North Augusta are open Christmas Eve for those who really like to bring it down to the wire.
