Police try to crack the case after more than 500 eggs stolen from restaurant
SEATTLE (KOMO) – Police in Washington are trying to crack a case involving hundreds of stolen eggs.
Luna Park Cafe in Seattle relies on eggs to keep their business running.
The loss of hundreds of the valuable food items doesn’t make things any easier, according to the restaurant’s general manager David Park.
“Since we serve mostly eggs here at the Luna Park Cafe, we have been struggling ourselves to get more eggs,” he said.
Surveillance video caught the egg thieves entering a refrigerated shed and loading up their truck.
Police said two men got away with 540 eggs. Other food was also stolen, including bacon, ground beef, blueberries and liquid egg products.
The total cost of items stolen is around $780.
“We saw the guy and we tried to block them, and then they just almost crashed into us and then ran away,” Park said.
This devastating theft comes as egg prices continue to skyrocket with the ongoing bird flu outbreak.
Park said these rising costs have put a serious strain on the business.
“We couldn’t order any eggs so we had to drive around to all the markets to get the eggs. But even if you go to Costco or some grocery stores, it’s hard to get so it’s very difficult,” Park said.
Park believes the cafe was targeted because of the high egg prices. He said the thieves did not bother to take any other expensive items from the store.
“They didn’t touch anything, they just stole the eggs, liquid egg, and some meat,” he said. “The champagne cost more but they stole the eggs.”
So far police said no one has been arrested.
They are now asking anyone who may have information related to the case to reach out to them.
