EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Riverside Middle School student is in trouble over a threatening comment, parents were told Tuesday.

The student made the comment in front of others after getting into a physical altercation with another student, Principal Eli Putnam told parents in a letter.

The student is being held able according to the code of conduct and the law, Putnam said.

Authorities and educators take threats like this seriously these days – and especially since the Apalachee High School shooting killed four people in Georgia.

Just Monday, Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation into law to require panic buttons in all schools to summon law enforcement in an emergency.
