The historic fire burned more than 13,000 acres.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said first responders noticed a rapidly growing wildfire while searching for a missing hiker on March 21.

The search group located and evacuated seven hikers, several of which were questioned about how the fire started.

SCFC investigators and detectives with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office later gathered evidence that identified the suspects as part of the fire’s origin, officials said.
