GAFFNEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Some Limestone University students said they are ‘heartbroken’ and feel ‘betrayed’ after learning that the school is closing.

The school sent an email out to students Tuesday night following a Board of Trustees meeting announcing plans to close.

Some student athletes spoke out regarding the decision.

“I am devastated,” said Courtney, a Lacrosse player from Tennessee. “This school taught me how to love being in college.”

Courtney said she transferred to Limestone from another school and is upset about the closing.

Another student, Giselle, just arrived to Limestone from Brazil in spring 2025 and she said she feels betrayed.

“It’s horrible and the whole fact that no one even came out to talk to us in person,” said Giselle. “Just an email is just a lack of respect in my opinion.”

They also said do not know what they will do with their belongings since the school is closing and some of the apartments are giving the students a few days to move out.
