Man accused of assaulting North Augusta officer during arrest
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man is charged with 13 different charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer, pointing a gun and resisting arrest.
Officers responded to the 300 block of West Hugh Street, North Augusta Gardens, for a male pointing a handgun at citizens in the area, according to the incident report.
Officers located Franshaun Henderson, where an officer held him at gunpoint and ordered him to get on the ground, the report says.
Henderson ignored the commands and resisted arrest. He then cornered the officer at his patrol door and began assaulting the officer, officials say.
Henderson tried grabbing for his handgun, and a struggle ensued. The officer was able to separate from Henderson and challenged him at gunpoint, according to the incident report.
Sheriff’s office investigating alleged student abuse at Redcliffe Elementary
The sheriff's office has begun an investigation into alleged student abuse at an elementary school in Aiken.

The officer was able to gain control of Henderson’s arm, preventing him from drawing his gun, and performed an arm-bar takedown, controlling Henderson until more officers arrived, according to the report.
Another officer took Henderson’s gun from his pocket, and the first officer and another put Henderson in handcuffs, the report says.
Victims said they saw Hendson standing at the intersection of West Hugh Street and Marion Street, where he pulled the handgun from his pants and pointed it at their windshield, officials say.
The victims fled the scene afterwards, according to the report.
Officers found what is believed to be crack cocaine and marijuana in Henderson’s pocket, the agency says.

Law enforcement officers in Richmond County are learning how to use nonlethal force for everyone's safety.

The report says officers believe Henderson was highly intoxicated during the incident.
Henderson was transported to the hospital after the incident, the agency says.
He’s now booked in the Aiken County Detention Center and facing charges including resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, assault and battery in the first degree and pointing a firearm.
Henderson faces additional charges for having a firearm as a convicted felon.
