FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV/Gray News) - Former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in her home state of West Virginia.

Retton, 57, was charged May 17 with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances or drugs, according to magistrate court records.

A judge gave Retton a $1,500 personal recognizance bond, court records state.

Retton made history during the 1984 Summer Olympics when she won the all-around gold medal in gymnastics, becoming the first American woman to accomplish the feat. She also won two silver medals and two bronze medals during the Olympics.
