Archery angler shatters state record with 67-pound grass carp
NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho (Gray News) - An Idaho angler has set a new state record after landing a massive grass carp while bow fishing on the Snake River.
According to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Riley Farden’s arrow hit a 67.65-pound grass carp that measured 49 inches long with a 32.75-inch girth.
Officials said Farden’s catch shattered the previous archery record of 39.5 pounds while also suring the current grass carp rod and reel record of 46.7 pounds.
Coincidentally, Farden’s grass carp matched exactly the weight of Idaho’s current common carp archery record of 67.65 pounds.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game said bow fishing for carp is permitted because the species is classified as a nongame fish.
