Grant Me Hope: Meet 14-year-old Johnell
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Thousands of children in Georgia don’t have a family to call their own.
News 12 has begun a partnership with the nonprofit Grant Me Hope, which works to find homes for older children in the foster care system.
Today, we want to introduce you to 14-year-old Johnell. He is looking for a family that will allow him to maintain relationships with his brothers who are separate and will give him the attention, and encouragement he needs.
“I like to play basketball and I like to play video games and stuff like that,” said Johnell. “I like the hornets. My favorite colors are green and black. My favorite food is tacos. My favorite movie is the new Wolverine movie. I want to go to New York, like the Manhattan area or Brooklyn.”
Johnell says he likes New York because he thinks of his favorite movies.
“I feel like it would be a good experience, and I feel like that would be something that I would actually be interested in,” he said. “If you look at any type of like 90s movies or anything like that, and it’s a New York theme, I really want to feel like I’m in that movie.”

Johnell says he is interested in technology.
“When I grow up, I want to be able to work in the tech field, and I want to be able to do different things with tech and business,” he said.
“If I could own any car, it’d be a Corvette Stingray. If I had any superpower, I would want to be stretchy.”
“Redemption means to me finding the right person that I feel like will respect all my wants and needs, and I can call that place home for as long as I’m there,” said Johnell. “A favorite home for me would be like, I have a sibling, like one other kid in the home. That’s really what I wanted.”
Johnelle hopes to bring many different qualities to his future family.
“I feel like what I could bring to a family would be a different sense of humor. You know, different sense of style, taste and fashion and stuff like that,” he said. “I’d be able to be a model towards other people and be a good influence on other people.
