FORT BRAGG, N.C. (CNN) - President Donald Trump spoke at Fort Bragg in North Carolina on Tuesday.

He announced plans to restore Confederate names to several military bases.

“We are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort A.P. Hill and Fort Robert E. Lee,” Trump stated.

A commission created by Congress in 2021, despite strong pushback from Trump, recommended renaming nine Confederate-linked military sites.

In 2022, then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, under former President Joe Biden, approved the changes.

Trump’s visit also kicked off the Army’s 250th birthday celebrations. The celebration will wrap up this weekend on Trump’s 79th birthday with a huge military parade.
