Construction begins for new traffic circle on Riverwood Parkway
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A small circle could make a big difference for traffic when students head back to school in Columbia County.
At Riverwood Parkway, drivers will see another traffic circle near Greenbrier Elementary, Middle and High schools.
It will be at the intersection of Riverwood Parkway and General Woods Parkway.
Parents continue to call for change at Redcliffe Elementary School
Local parents called for change outside the Aiken County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night.

We visited the site on Tuesday as contractors measured and marked out where the circle and medians for each exit would be.
We’re told it will make the intersection safer and more efficient for those who will use it on a daily basis.
According to Columbia County Engineer Kyle Titus, even with the rainy weather we’ve been having, the traffic circle is progressing nicely.
Cyber Power Camp underway this week at Aiken Tech
We visited Aiken Tech’s Cyber Power Camp on Tuesday, where teenagers were learning how to build and program a model rover.
“So far, this project is on schedule and is going relatively smoothly. The bulk of the work is again service improvements. So, we’re confident that you know, weather permitting, we will stay on schedule. We’re not doing a lot of heavy excavation or utility work. So, we’re hopeful that it will continue to progress. Smoothly and will be opened up before school starts back,” he said.
Those who use Riverwood Parkway will start to see new traffic pattern signs as early as Wednesday while contractors race against the August deadline.
“People who have to travel by intersection every day, I know there’s a lot of concerns with the efficiency of that intersection. I know there’s a lot of concerns with the safety of that intersection, so I’m excited for the people that need to traverse to and through that intersection daily,” said Titus.
