LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. (WTVG/Gray News) – A woman died in a car crash after authorities say she may have fallen asleep behind the wheel with her daughter in the vehicle.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon on US-12 east of Mull Highway in Franklin Township, Michigan.

The 33-year-old woman, whose name wasn’t publicly released, was from Delta, Ohio.

Investigators with the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office said they believe she fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line. Her car then crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle.

Officials said they had to use the jaws of life to get the woman out of her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Her 12-year-old daughter, who was also in the car, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as a 32-year-old woman, suffered a leg injury but is expected to be OK.

Investigators are still working to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
