AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Our persistent pattern is going to continue into the weekend featuring seasonal highs and chance for afternoon and evening storms. Next week looks hotter with above average highs and slightly lower storm chances.

Shower and thunderstorm activity should start to decrease in coverage across the CSRA after midnight. Cloudy and muggy tonight with lows staying in the low 70s.

Storm chances continue into the weekend - mainly afternoon and evening time frame, but a quick morning shower can’t be ruled out Saturday. Scattered storms are expected Saturday as an upper level trough gets closer to the region and helps initiate storm development after lunchtime and continue through sunset. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Slightly breezier Saturday with southwest winds sustained between 8-12 mph with higher gusts.

Sunday will be seasonal with highs near 90. If you have outdoor plans, keep the First Alert Weather app close by so it can alert you if lightning or heavy rain is getting close to your location. Widely scattered storms are possible in the afternoon and evening, but coverage should remain hit or miss and less widespread than Saturday.

Next week starts to get hotter with above average highs. Highs will stay in the low 90s Monday, but increase to the low to mid-90s by the middle of next week - heat index will max out between 100-105.
