Traffic stop turns into high-speed chase, ending in arrest
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Malibu near the intersection of GA Highway 25 North and Hephzibah-McBean Road Friday around 7:04 p.m.
The vehicle initially slowed down but then accelerated, fleeing from law enforcement and starting a high-speed chase.
The chase continued for several miles and crossed into Burke County, ultimately ending around half a mile past Greiner Circle.
During the chase, deputies saw an object, believed to be a firearm, being thrown from the vehicle.
Deputies investigate baby’s death at Grovetown home daycare
Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a 4-month-old at a Grovetown home daycare on Fieldstone Road.

The chase concluded when an RCSO deputy performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Burke County deputies were notified and responded to the scene to assist.
The driver, identified as Jordan Perkins, was arrested.
Following the stop, deputies searched the area where the object was thrown.
22-year-old arrested for aggravated assault in Washington County
The arrest stems from a shooting that occurred on March 27 at around 5:30 p.m. at the 3000 block of Mayview Road.

Based on in-car video footage, deputies recovered a firearm and secured it as evidence.
Perkins was charged with felony fleeing to elude and various traffic-related offenses.
The investigation remains ongoing.
