High school graduate paralyzed after getting hit by bus on celebratory trip
LANCASTER, Pa. (WGAL) - A recent high school graduate from Pennsylvania may never walk again after he was hit by a bus and suffered serious injuries while on a trip with friends.
Trevor Vollmer was celebrating his recent graduation from Pequea Valley High School with his friends in Ocean City, Maryland, when he was hit by a bus at 1:30 a.m. last Saturday. He was playing with a ball when it rolled into the street, and he went to retrieve it.
“He was facing a bus with his head down, bent over, and that’s why when it hit him, it just crushed his spine, compressed the spine. Split his head wide open and gave him a brain injury and bleeding on the brain,” said Trevor’s father, Joseph Vollmer.

Amid his serious injuries, it’s unclear if Trevor Vollmer will ever be able to walk again.
“As of right now, he cannot feel from his waist down,” his father said.
But if it weren’t for two people on board the bus who hopped out to help, Trevor Vollmer might not be here.
“They got him breathing again. He was actually out and not breathing. He was basically dead, and they did R on him, got him back to life,” Joseph Vollmer said.
Trevor Vollmer now begins a long journey to recovery as his family asks for prayers. It’s unclear how long he will remain at the trauma hospital.
“He’s said to me several times, ‘Dad, I just want to finish Senior Week and have fun with my friends. When can I get out of here, please?” Joseph Vollmer said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with expenses, including travel, temporary housing, food and gas, as well as lack of income.
